Unnur: A tribute to the power of nature and family

Unnur is a recently released short film that tells the story of Elli Thor, an Icelandic photographer, surfer, and former kayaker.

A decade ago Elli nearly drowned under a waterfall while kayaking a challenging Icelandic river. The near-death experience became a catalyst for personal growth and his professional career. After walking away from kayaking, a newfound passion for surfing and the birth of his daughter Unnur gave him a new perspective worth living for.

Check out the beautiful 19-minute movie below for the loving father-daughter bond and to enjoy the empty, unspoiled landscapes of Iceland.

Directed by Chris Burkard

Some of you may know photographer and explorer Chris Burkard for his beautiful images (his Instagram account has an impressive 3.6 million followers). You might have read about his recent epic cross-country bike trip through the fjords and highlands of Iceland.

Chris is clearly a busy guy: he directed and produced Unnur, and Icelandair is proud to have supported this work.

Iceland is the perfect place to explore when you're ready to travel again. When that time comes, we look forward to welcoming you back.
