Day 1Welcome to Reykjavík!

After your flight from the UK, check in at your hotel and get comfortable for your stay in Iceland. If you arrive early, drop your bags and start exploring the world’s northernmost capital. Stroll through the Old Town with its colourful houses, browse boutique shops, or relax in one of the city’s cosy cafés. Reykjavík is full of excellent restaurants, so you’ll have plenty of options for your first Icelandic dinner. Feeling adventurous? You could even add on one of our optional day tours to kick-start your trip.

Day 2Hunt for the northern lights

During the day, discover Aurora Reykjavík Northern Lights Centre, included in your Iceland Golden Circle package. Here you can learn about the science, stories and legends behind the aurora around the world.

In the evening, search for them yourself with the Northern Lights hunt. You’ll travel out of the city with an expert guide who’ll take you to that evening’s best viewing location, as decided by Mother Nature. You might find yourself gazing up from a lava field, or watching the sky come alive from Iceland’s dramatic coastline. Coaches are equipped with Wi-Fi. Departures range from 9 to 10pm, depending on the time of year, with hotel pick-ups beginning at 30 minutes prior. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and their appearance cannot be guaranteed.

Please note: If your tour is cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions, or your tour operates as scheduled without any northern lights sightings, you have the option of joining the tour the following night for free (subject to availability). If your tour is cancelled due to weather conditions and you’re unable to reschedule, you may request a full refund for the included northern lights tour only.

Day 3Take a tour of the Golden Circle

Today is all about Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route: the Golden Circle. This full-day tour takes you to:

Gullfoss, the spectacular queen of Iceland’s waterfalls.

Geysir Geothermal Area, where hot springs are in abundance, geysers explode and pools of mud bubble.

Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can walk between two tectonic plates and discover the site of the oldest existing parliament in the world.

You’ll also stop at the Friðheimar greenhouse, where geothermal energy is used to grow tomatoes all year round. Enjoy the unique atmosphere and taste some of their delicious produce before returning to Reykjavík in the evening.

Day 4Optional: Explore more of Iceland

Not ready to go home? If you want to extend your time in Iceland, you can add an extra day in Reykjavík or the surrounding area. There is plenty to see and do within the city centre, or you could choose to venture out and experience the breathtaking Icelandic nature for yourself. Relax in the soothing waters of the Blue Lagoon, head out on a South Coast adventure to see glaciers and black sand beaches, or try whale watching for an unforgettable encounter with Icelandic wildlife. With the option to extend your trip by up to 30 days, you can build the Iceland holiday that’s perfect for you.

Your final dayFarewell (for now)

The time has come to say goodbye. Transfer to Keflavík Airport for your return flight home with Icelandair. We hope you’ve enjoyed your Golden Circle and Northern Lights holiday, and we look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon.
