Baggage allowance

Baggage allowance on international flights

The amount of baggage included in your ticket depends on your fare type.

Checked baggage

The maximum combined height + length + depth of the bag is 62 inches/158 cm, shown as X, Y, Z.

Maximum weight: 23 kg.

All items that exceed the maximum weight or total size are considered odd-sized. More information on what are considered odd-sized items is found under Excess baggage. Odd-sized bags can be checked in like regular baggage and airport staff can guide passengers to the designated drop off point for odd-sized bags.

Carry-on baggage

Your carry-on bag must fit in the overhead compartment. If your carry-on exceeds the size or weight limit, we’ll check it in. Baggage fees will apply if your allowance is exceeded.

Maximum size (including handles and wheels): 21.6x15.7x7.8 inches (55x40x20 cm).

Maximum weight: 22lbs (10kg).

Personal item

Additionally, you may bring on board 1 small personal item such as a handbag, backpack, or laptop bag that must fit under the seat in front of you.

Maximum dimensions: 40 x 30 x 15 cm (15.7 x 11.8 x 5.9 inches).

Special allowance

Children (2-11 years old)

  • Same baggage allowance as adults traveling in the same class.
  • In addition, a completely folding stroller is allowed free of charge.
  • An approved child seat may be brought on board if the child sits in it during the flight.

Infants (under 2 years old)

  • 1 checked bag (except on Economy Light) and no carry-on baggage.
  • A stroller and car seat or carrying basket are always included.

Saga Gold & Silver members

  • 1 extra checked bag in addition to general baggage allowance.

Traveling with animals

Sports equipment

  • Small sports equipment (such as skis and snowboards, hockey equipment, skateboards, diving equipment or bowling balls) may be counted towards the free baggage allowance. See more.

Traveling with multiple airlines

If your journey includes multiple airlines or a combination of domestic and international flights, your baggage allowance may change.

Domestic and international flights

  • Flights within Iceland: If your ticket includes both international and domestic flights within Iceland, the international baggage allowance applies to your entire trip. If you’re connecting between airports in Iceland, remember to pick up and transfer your bags between Keflavík and Reykjavík.
  • Greenland flights: If your ticket includes flights to/from Greenland along with international or domestic flights, the Greenland baggage allowance applies for your whole journey.

Multiple airlines

  • If you're flying via Iceland you'll get your baggage checked in to your next destination.
  • If you're flying to and connecting in North America, you need to pick up your bags at the connecting airport, go through customs, and put your baggage on a baggage belt dedicated to connecting flights.
  • If you're flying to and connecting in Europe, in most cases you can check in your bags all the way to your final destination. There's an exception for passengers flying to/from domestic airports in Norway and connecting at a Norwegian international airport (such as Oslo or Bergen), as well as flying from London Heathrow and Manchester airport with two flight ticket numbers.

When your trip involves more than one airline, different baggage rules may apply. Extra bags for connecting flights with other airlines must be purchased at the airport during check-in, as they cannot be bought on our website. This may also impact fees and duty-free purchases during your travel.
