Iceland is just around the corner, and OPEN to fully-vaccinated travelers from the USA and Canada! Are you ready to see the newest natural wonder of this ever-evolving country? The eruption of Fagradalsfjall volcano is a once-in-a-lifetime experience like no other!
The first volcanic eruption in 800 years on Iceland’s Reykjanes peninsula provides an opportunity open for all to experience – and just minutes from both Reykjavík and Keflavík International Airport! The orange, glowing rivers of lava, predicted to continue for months or even years, form a surreal and stunning vista reachable after a 90-120 minute hike to the site. Once there, enjoy two hours of taking in mother nature’s incredible display of power and transformation before the 4.5-mile hike back. The hike is considered of moderate difficulty.
Join local photographer Ása Steinars as she documented the perfect day out from Reykjavík, taking in a hike to our hot new volcanic eruption and a soak in the otherworldly waters of the Blue Lagoon, before heading back to Reykjavík in time for dinner.
After a hike and exploration of the jaw-dropping volcano site – it’s time to relax. This Iceland vacation package also includes a trip to the warm, soothing and colorful waters of the Blue Lagoon, with its lava and moss-filled scenery, state of the art facilities, a unique atmosphere and silica masks that make your skin extra firm, yet incredibly soft!
There’s a LOT to do in Iceland, so why not add some additional days for exploring the great outdoors? Extend your vacation at the time of booking to stay in Iceland up to 7 nights! Explore more of Reykjavík or head out of the city’s cozy confines to check out Iceland’s breath-taking nature with our numerous tour options. From stunning glacial lagoons to continuing the volcano theme with Lava Tunnel tours, now is the time to head to the Land of Fire & Ice!
Is visiting a volcanic site safe for everyone? Be sure to familiarize yourself with the Icelandic Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management’s public guidance for hikers so you are fully prepared for the environs that can be expected to and at the eruption site. This Iceland Monitor article has advice on who should or shouldn’t consider the journey. How should I prepare and what must I bring with me to enjoy this experience to its fullest? A local landowner started a new site providing expert information on what to bring and more.
Reykjavik Excursions, the operator of the Guided Iceland Volcano Hike, will follow the recommendations of Iceland’s Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management. This is not limited to potential tour cancellations if circumstances at the eruption site are deemed unsafe. Be aware that the weather can change quickly.
