Grab a taxi for the 5-minute drive to Reykjavík domestic airport for your 45-minute flight to the capital of North Iceland, Akureyri. The Northern Lights tour starts at 21:30 with pick-up from your hotel at 21:15 hours. Based on the weather conditions, your tour guide will choose the area in the countryside where you’re most likely to see the Aurora Borealis with its spectacular displays of colour, light and texture. You can re-book your Northern Lights tour the following night at no extra cost if the tour was operated but no sightings occurred.
Enjoy the day in Akureyri, a town of charming buildings cradled within the magnificent Eyjafjörður fjord. Though small in size, Akureyri is vibrant and lively, offering gourmet dining, galleries, outdoor cafes and pubs. The year-round botanical gardens are an interesting feature, as well as the splendid spa-like geothermal swimming pool. If you are into skiing, you can hit the magnificent slopes at the Hlíðarfjall ski area in town.
